Privacy Policy

Information you enter into the calculator

The calculator asks for information such as your repair quote, vehicle situation, estimated value, loan balance, and replacement assumptions. This information is used to create your repair-or-replace comparison. In this MVP, calculator inputs are stored in your browser local storage so the results page can display your estimate. They are not submitted to a server, saved to a database, or tied to an account.

You can clear saved calculator results by clearing your browser storage for this site or by using a private browsing session for calculations you do not want saved locally.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, hosting and infrastructure providers may process basic technical information needed to deliver the site, such as IP address, browser type, device information, requested pages, timestamps, and error logs. This information helps keep the site available, secure, and reliable.

Search measurement and optional analytics

We use Google Search Console to understand how pages appear in Google Search, including search queries, impressions, clicks, indexing status, and crawl issues. Search Console is not used to track individual calculator inputs.

Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Speed Insights are not enabled by default. The site code requires an explicit analytics setting before it loads Google Analytics, and the Speed Insights package is not installed. If either service is enabled later, this policy and any required consent controls will be reviewed before deployment.

If optional analytics is enabled, it may process general usage information such as page URL, page title, referrer, approximate location, device and browser information, session information, and limited interaction events. The event design excludes calculator amounts, make and model, ZIP code, free text, email address, and complete calculation payloads.

Cookies and local storage

The calculator uses browser local storage for the limited purpose of showing your results after you complete the calculator. Optional analytics services may use cookies or similar technologies if they are enabled in the future. Your browser settings may let you block or delete cookies and local storage, though doing so may affect site functionality.

Advertising and affiliate monetization

Car Second Opinion does not currently use display advertising, Google AdSense, affiliate links, paid rankings, sponsored placements, or vendor directories. If third-party ads or ad networks are added later, those vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to serve, personalize, measure, or limit ads. We will update this policy and related disclosures before enabling ad networks or monetized affiliate relationships.

Email and checklist requests

If you email us at hello@carsecondopinion.com, we will receive your email address and any information you choose to include. We use that information to read and respond to your message. Do not send sensitive financial, insurance, legal, medical, or vehicle-identifying information unless you are comfortable sharing it by email.

Checklist request forms may use Kit, our email provider, to collect your email address and send checklist or follow-up emails you requested. Kit may process your email address, signup page, timing, and email engagement according to its own privacy and email-delivery practices. You can unsubscribe from checklist emails using the unsubscribe link included in those messages.

If Kit is unavailable or not connected, checklist request forms may fall back to your own email app and create a message addressed to hello@carsecondopinion.com. The "Email My Results" action also uses your own email app and creates a draft for you to address and send yourself. Car Second Opinion does not receive that results draft unless you choose to send it to us.

Third-party links

The site may link to third-party search results or websites, including search engines, repair-related searches, vehicle-shopping resources, and informational pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for how third-party websites collect, use, or share information.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for a general audience making vehicle repair or replacement decisions. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can avoid entering information into the calculator, clear local storage in your browser, use private browsing, disable or delete cookies where your browser allows it, or contact us with privacy questions. Because the MVP does not use accounts or a calculator database, we may not be able to identify calculator data that only exists in your browser.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as the site changes, including if we add analytics, email features, or other services. The current version will be posted on this page.
